Over the next few months I want to use my Saturday Inspirations to show you some of the stuff we’re changing at the ranch house and the images that are inspiring me to make the changes. Hopefully, you’ll get to see the end results! Hopefully, I’LL get to see the end results too! This is me thinking positive.
I just figured we’d start at the front door and work our way around the house. So today, the front door it is.
One of the really cool things about buying an older custom home in a small community is the fact that a lot of people are familiar with our house. I was at the coolest salvage store/yard one day complaining about the jacuzzi in my living room when the owner of the store told me his dad built our house! What? Lesson learned. Don’t say anything negative in the community, you never know who you’re talking too. PS A good rule of thumb everyday.
Because our house is full of posts and beams, we hired an architect to see which ones need to stay and which ones can go. While he was at our house he mentioned knowing the original owner and builder. He also mentioned his father built our front door. How cool is that? My brother is a contractor in Las Vegas and said he recently priced out a door and entry similar to ours for a client and it went for over 4,500.00. Needless to say, we are keeping the front door and entry but just want to bring it new life… and into 2015, should I say 2016?
Here it is:
We like to call it “Beauty and The Beast” door. The stained glass is slipping under the main glass and the side windows are single paned. We are replacing the sides with four gridded windows. For the center, we are removing the center rectangle panel and replacing it with a gridded window. I’m really excited because the glass has been ordered and should be ready for replacement by the next time I head up there. As a side note, there are people who don’t want us to change the glass, but when we offer those people the windows, they never say yes. PS If anyone wants the light fixtures seen in any of these photos, let me know, I can give you a good deal.
Here are my inspiration pics that helped me decide on what I wanted to do.
So now you know what we’ll be doing to the front door, a little inside and out. Always feel free to share any ideas you may have or share any stories about changes you’ve made to your rooms! I love hearing it.
What color of gray is that??
Which one? One of the grays is listed as “light year”
