Over the next few months I want to use my Saturday Inspirations to show you some of the stuff we’re changing at the ranch house and the images that are inspiring me to make the changes. Hopefully, you’ll get to see the end results! Hopefully, I’LL get to see the end results too! This is me thinking positive.

I just figured we’d start at the front door and work our way around the house. So today, the front door it is.

One of the really cool things about buying an older custom home in a small community is the fact that a lot of people are familiar with our house. I was at the coolest salvage store/yard one day complaining about the jacuzzi in my living room when the owner of the store told me his dad built our house! What? Lesson learned. Don’t say anything negative in the community, you never know who you’re talking too. PS A good rule of thumb everyday.

Because our house is full of posts and beams, we hired an architect to see which ones need to stay and which ones can go. While he was at our house he mentioned knowing the original owner and builder. He also mentioned his father built our front door. How cool is that? My brother is a contractor in Las Vegas and said he recently priced out a door and entry similar to ours for a client and it went for over 4,500.00. Needless to say, we are keeping the front door and entry but just want to bring it new life… and into 2015, should I say 2016?

Here it is:

Untitled-1

We like to call it “Beauty and The Beast” door. The stained glass is slipping under the main glass and the side windows are single paned. We are replacing the sides with four gridded windows. For the center, we are removing the center rectangle panel and replacing it with a gridded window. I’m really excited because the glass has been ordered and should be ready for replacement by the next time I head up there. As a side note, there are people who don’t want us to change the glass, but when we offer those people the windows, they never say yes. PS If anyone wants the light fixtures seen in any of these photos, let me know, I can give you a good deal.

Here are my inspiration pics that helped me decide on what I wanted to do.

Fabulous door! I love the little windows along the side of the door. The plants add a nice touch and the lantern, Love!

Ok, I know I can't have this door, but seriously, don't you just love it? I'd love to have a split door! <div class="embed-houzz"><div><a href='https://www.houzz.com/photos/laguna-beach-beach-style-entry-orange-county-phvw-vp~20108339'><img src="https://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/4a6153f6046ba94e_4-7615/beach-style-entry.jpg" alt="Laguna Beach beach-style-entry" border=0 width='640' height='426' nopin='nopin'></img></a></div><div style='color:#444;'><small><a style='text-decoration:none;color:#444;' href='https://www.houzz.com/professionals/architects-and-building-designers/thomas-burger-architect-pfvwus-pf~1509954486'>Photo by Thomas Burger Architect.</a> <a style='text-decoration:none;color:#444;' href='https://www.houzz.com/photos/coastal/entry'>See more coastal entry designs</a></small></div></div>

This one is actually a possibility. I also love the house colors and am seriously considering the gray and black as part of my scheme.<div class="embed-houzz"><div><a href='https://www.houzz.com/photos/classic-transformation-traditional-entry-new-york-phvw-vp~1411604'><img src="https://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/18317b43002d0050_4-9898/traditional-entry.jpg" alt="Classic Transformation traditional-entry" border=0 width='640' height='426' nopin='nopin'></img></a></div><div style='color:#444;'><small><a style='text-decoration:none;color:#444;' href='https://www.houzz.com/professionals/architects-and-building-designers/knight-architects-llc-pfvwus-pf~1258321906'>Photo by Knight Architects LLC.</a> <a style='text-decoration:none;color:#444;' href='https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional/entry'>See more traditional entry designs</a></small></div></div>

This is one of my favorite images and you'll be seeing it in the future on my inspiration Saturdays. This is what I expect our door to look like from the inside. The center of our door will be gridded as well as the sides.<div class="embed-houzz"><div><a href='https://www.houzz.com/photos/jersey-sound-house-traditional-entry-newark-phvw-vp~2537918'><img src="https://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/1f315d8400fd9e68_4-7869/traditional-entry.jpg" alt="Jersey Sound House traditional-entry" border=0 width='552' height='640' nopin='nopin'></img></a></div><div style='color:#444;'><small><a style='text-decoration:none;color:#444;' href='https://www.houzz.com/professionals/architects-and-building-designers/cushman-design-group-pfvwus-pf~2080404437'>Photo by Cushman Design Group.</a> <a style='text-decoration:none;color:#444;' href='https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional/entry'>See more traditional entry designs</a></small></div></div>

OK, Let's talk about color! I'm going to paint the door fabulous yellow! <div class="embed-houzz"><div><a href='https://www.houzz.com/hznb/photos/miz-d-contemporary-exterior-vancouver-phvw-vp~162009'><img src="https://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/45c1f4da0dabd42a_4-5024/contemporary-exterior.jpg" alt="Miz D contemporary-exterior" border=0 width='480' height='640' nopin='nopin'></img></a></div><div style='color:#444;'><small><a style='text-decoration:none;color:#444;' href='https://www.houzz.com/photos/contemporary/exterior'>See more contemporary exterior designs</a></small></div></div>

I love the whole look of this door, the house colors are perfect! The only things missing are black shutters! It's darling.<div class="embed-houzz"><div><a href='https://www.houzz.com/hznb/photos/spring-lane-traditional-exterior-salt-lake-city-phvw-vp~1187540'><img src="https://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/65c15a9f0ffc7681_4-2567/traditional-exterior.jpg" alt="Spring Lane traditional-exterior" border=0 width='640' height='412' nopin='nopin'></img></a></div><div style='color:#444;'><small><a style='text-decoration:none;color:#444;' href='https://www.houzz.com/professionals/general-contractors/tiek-built-homes-pfvwus-pf~1577183772'>Photo by Tiek Built Homes.</a> <a style='text-decoration:none;color:#444;' href='https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional/exterior'>See more traditional exterior designs</a></small></div></div>

So now you know what we’ll be doing to the front door, a little inside and out. Always feel free to share any ideas you may have or share any stories about changes you’ve made to your rooms! I love hearing it.
