Today I have something really cool to share with you! I’m sure many of you already know about these, but for me, it’s a new concept. The Airbnb! Have you heard of them? They’re in 190 countries. There are thousands of places to stay, and you can choose anything from a room to an entire house.
This week I was reading a blog post by one of my favorite photographers and world explorers, David DuChemin. He was talking about his current trip to Europe and mentioned he will be traveling for a couple of months, staying almost entirely in airbnb’s.
The airbnb is like a bed and breakfast but is actually in a real person’s house! You can stay at their house like you would a hotel or bed and breakfast. The cost is typically lower than you would spend on a hotel in the area. From what I’m seeing the accommodations are “warmer,” more interesting, and way more, dare I say, adventurous? It’s an amazing way to visit an area, because it’s like staying with friends. What a cool way to travel, right?
I found out about the airbnb because my Uncle Leo runs one out of his house! What? I can’t get over this! I’ve been thinking about it, looking at all the pictures of his place, and reading all of the reviews. This is so cool, I can’t stand it. I have to show it to you, and you have to come and stay at his place.
They have a two story beach house walking distance from the beach. The city is Dana Point, and to stay here in a hotel can get very pricey, but to stay in his upstairs suite is only 100.00 a night for a space that sleeps 4 people. It has a full bathroom and so many amenities like a little fridge, Keurig coffee maker, and flat screen TV with cable and Wifi. PS if you have more than 4 people there is a VW surf van at the location that two people can sleep in!
I’m so incredibly proud of what he and his fiancé, Valerie have done with their little place. I couldn’t stop reading all the great reviews about the two of them. They’re so sweet and such fabulous hosts! I want to go stay with them!
However, that’s a little weird because I live 5 miles away.
Here are a few pictures and the website page of his place. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4567693?s=qmV6Ob4j
