Every Sunday evening my oldest daughter, Alix comes over with her roommate, Steven. We all watch The Walking Dead together while the two of them do their laundry. This week they came over early so we had more time with them, which is always fabulous. I decided it was the perfect time for a little bit of egg dyeing. We only had two dozen eggs so we didn’t get wild, but it was still fun to watch everyone’s creative brains in action. I think that’s my favorite part, just watching what people come up with.
Here are some of the pictures:
All of the colors! I love egg dye! This year we decided to use white eggs as usual, and we gave the brown ones a try. I’ve seen them on other blogs and have bee really excited to make them. This poor egg broke when I blew the yolk out.As a side note, if you do blow out the eggs, it’s rather difficult to keep them down in the dye. They may be better for hand drawn designs.First egg of the day. Steve made this one. Here’s Steve working on his second egg, a Charlie Brown look alike.Speaking of drawing on eggs, here is Alix creating one of my favorite eggs.Alix’s completed fish egg.
Another of Alix’s creations, Dyed and hand drawn.Of course, Emma makes a darling guinea pig egg…
Megan Johnson’s egg……and Shelby June’s egg.More eggs from Alix.Sometimes I just look at the dye in the cups… What’s not to love? The secret surprise of the evening was Steven. He didn’t dye with everybody else. He waited and watched… Then, he made this! What a cute little minion! And here is my favorite egg of the night! I know moms are not supposed to have favorites but I can’t help myself. It cracked me up! (No pun intended) Steven made it out of our poor broken egg, and in honor of The Walking Dead half-season finally, it’s a ZOMBIE EGG! I love the teeth and details of this egg. It’s not traditional, but then again nothing at our house ever is. It’s perfect.
Oh! And by the way the brown eggs looked really lovely! I love the way the colors had real depth and the way the markings on each egg were accentuated. I’ll use brown eggs in the future… Like probably today.
PS Here are the brown eggs I dyed.
Have a fabulous Easter weekend, everyone! Just have some fun!
