Spring Has Really Sprung!

In the Garden

So many places in the United States are still under snow or at least feeling the last little bit of winter. Not here in Southern California! We are in the middle of a really weird heart wave. (Earthquake anyone?) Last weekend I was really excited to get my spring flowers planted, and when I went to The Home Depot to get them, it was clear everyone else was feeling the same way. The place was packed with people buying lawn food and grass seed. Flowers were selling like hot cakes! (Remind me to look up where that expression came from.)

I love spring so much, but this year it seems we are being ripped off by getting summer and skipping spring. Our temperatures are hitting 80 and 90 degrees fahrenheit. At 4:30 this morning it was already or still, 80 degrees in the house. Yuck. I was so happy to be out working in the yard by 7:30 this morning. It was cooler outside than in the house. In fact, it was lovely. At least at that time of morning I could really pretend it’s spring. I was enjoying some planting and seeing all the flowers blooming. Many are being killed by the heat but enough is going on to be really pretty. Anyway, all that being said, Saint Patrick’s Day and Easter are here and personally, I love it! In fact, I wanted to share some spring love with you, so scroll down and feel the shady sweetness of the spring morning! Enjoy!

Don't you just love pansies? Little kitty faces. I planted some upstairs on my balcony and yesterday they were completely flat from the heat. I drenched them so today I'll see what they look like.

These purple daisies were darling and healthy until the heat. I'm flooding them and hoping they make it.

I planted these babies today. I am in love with the blooms.

How can something dying still be so pretty? I'm in love with their leaves. They've been a favorite to photograph many times.

Yay! Geraniums! These flowers are so hearty and handle the heat very well. Ge whiz, it's not like we live in the desert, what's going on here?

There are bud on so many plants in the yard, including our trees. I just want it to cool down before the explode.

Speaking of buds, my rose bushes are doing fabulously. All three plants are full of buds. Thank goodness for roses!

Here is the yellow one, already starting.

This is my favorite. I cut all the bushes back this year and they're really looking good.

My favorite part of being out in the morning is the dew that is lays around on everything. I love you, dew-diamonds!

These blooms last only a day or two, but they are so lovely and delicate.

I like looking at flowers from underneath. Next time you see one, check it out.
