Piggy Update and “Photo Shoot”

For those of you who are wondering about our little Guinea pigs, here is an update. Last time I wrote about the piggies Shelby was being treated for ringworm and an upper respiratory infection. It turned out Megan Johnson, Shelby’s new sister, also got the ring worm. PS, ringworm is not a worm that get’s under your skin. Just in case someone is thinking that. Well, I know for a fact someone is thinking that. Well, not anymore because I set her straight. I digress.

Both girls were treated for the infection and both are now clear and feeling great. (So is Emma) This did not come about before another several visits to the pet ER and vet, but I wont bore you with all the details. Let’s just say it got worse (and more expensive) before it got better. Emma and I have discussed that if this Shelby pig can live it’ll be with us, because no one could do a better job taking care of her. Emma gave her and Megan their medicine twice a day for over 10 days, and then went to topical medicine twice a day for another 10 days. Those little girls are very loved and they have a wonderful 11 year old mother.

During this time, Shelby failed to thrive and is still a tiny little guinea pig, about the size of a six week old baby. As both of the girls are approaching their six month birthdays I’m happy to announce that Shelby has finally started growing and putting on some weight. She’s probably always going to be small but for now she’s starting to thrive! We’ve even made it into our third week with zero pet visits!

Now the fun has really begun. The two of them just play all day and talk to us about their food wishes. Between the wheeking and popcorning, they seem like really happy little girls. We’ve also settled into our routine with them, as far as cleaning, and feedings. They’ve added a component to our lives that maybe limits our freedom a bit but has totally enriched our hearts. I can’t imagine not having them. Enjoy a few images I took during what Emma likes to call our photoshoot. We are always taking pictures for “our photo shoot…”Here is the cage layout. We made the fleece panels for the bottom of the cage. They are like pillow cases and fit nice and snug. They make clean up so easy! Plus we get to kind of “decorate” with them. Our second set is a My Little Pony theme. We plan to make different ones for the seasons.

Here is one of the houses, we call them jello-molds, because when you look at the pigs in there they really do look like they are trapped in a jello mold. This is a toy they could care less about and a hay ball they are obsessed with.

This was funny, because no matter which direction I shot them from they just froze there like piggy statues.

Megan is the big one and Shelby, well you know who she is.

I have to admit I'm in love with their noses and lips. They're so funny looking yet so darling all at the same time. — I have to admit I’m in love with their noses and lips. They’re so funny looking yet so darling all at the same time.

It's also a bit weird that Megan let Shelby stay this close to her. She's not a big snuggler. Last week I was looking at them and trying to figure out what I love so much about they way they look. I finally realized it's because they look like they are wearing little capri pajama jumpsuits... ohmygoodness i am IN LOVE with this post!!! Firstly – your guinea pigs are so adorable. Secondly, their cage and home is so beautiful! I love how many toys and homes they have for themselves. I had a guinea pig growing up and she was my FAVORITE thing in the world. We cut her up fresh vegetables for dinner every night and took her outside in the summer so she could eat the grass and lie in the sun – i kid you not haha.
I love to see that you take such good care of them 🙂

  Awww, thank you so much! I’m so happy you stopped by! We love these girls for sure and we cut up fresh veggies everyday too! Now anytime we’re in the kitchen making food they start wheeking so loud to make sure they get something too!
